To ensure the correct installation of the panels on the underground parts of the structure, a functional waterproofing layer must be applied to their surface
Special water-repellent properties
- The boards are moulded rather than cut from a block, which ensures a high degree of consistency and dimensional accuracy, as well as enhanced water repellency

KNAUF Therm EXPERT Hydro is the solution to many problems on a building site
1) Thermal bridge insulation (formwork insert and plaster base)
KNAUF Therm EXPERT Hydro boards, used as thermal bridge insulation in permanent formwork (e.g. for lintels, joists, columns and ring beam formwork), are laid tightly edge-to-edge, with the boards staggered. The rectangular shape of the edges reduces waste.
2) Plinth
Thanks to its high compressive strength, the KNAUF Therm EXPERT Hydro board is suitable for use in the thermal insulation of external walls using thermal insulation systems in the plinth area, which is exposed to impact. The rectangular edges allow for optimal installation of the boards in terms of labour intensity and waste. The fixing of the insulation boards (either by gluing or using expansion anchors) should be carried out in accordance with the guidelines provided by the manufacturer of the thermal insulation system. When applying plaster or tiling to the surface of the boards, the manufacturers’ guidelines for plastering mortars must be followed.
3) The external wall of the cellar
To ensure the correct installation of the boards on the underground parts of a building, a functional waterproofing layer must be applied to their surface. Regardless of the intended scope of application, KNAUF Therm EXPERT Hydro boards must never be used as a waterproofing layer. In all cases, however, the existing insulation is protected against harmful factors from the ground environment (protection of underground walls).
4) Inverted roof
In an inverted roof, the thermal insulation is located in the wet zone. KNAUF Therm EXPERT Hydro boards are laid on top of the existing waterproofing layer, thereby protecting the waterproofing from mechanical damage.
