A deep-penetrating primer for absorbent surfaces – Knauf Tiefengrund

A ready-to-use, water-based, solvent-free, colourless primer based on a synthetic resin dispersion. Knauf Tiefengrund is a vapour-permeable, deep-penetrating product. It strengthens highly dusty, very absorbent or damaged substrates, both inside and outside buildings. Used prior to laying ceramic tiles, plastering, painting, wallpapering, skimming, and as a primer for thin-layer screeds and floor underlays. May be diluted with water: max. 1:1.

Knauf Tiefengrund – scope of application

Knauf Tiefengrund strengthens wall surfaces, prolongs the setting time, improves the workability of materials and evens out their absorbency, thereby minimising the risk of blistering and cracking. The product can be used on a wide range of substrates, but is particularly recommended for absorbent and dust-prone ones:

• brick,
• concrete, aerated concrete blocks, Suporex, Ytong,
• ceramics,
• cement screeds
• internal and external cement-lime plasters,
• plaster, plasterboards and plasterboard panels
• cement-bonded particle boards.

The product is ready for use, but when applied to clean, stable surfaces with low absorbency, it can be diluted with water in a ratio of up to 1:1. Dilution increases the product’s coverage, although it offers excellent coverage even without dilution. How do you prepare the surface for applying Knauf Tiefengrund primer?

The primed substrate must, above all, be sound and dry. It is also essential that it is clean, i.e. free from dust, oil, grease, mould, cement slurry and anti-adhesive agents. If there are cracks in the surface, they must be widened, cleaned out and filled with a repair and levelling compound. Knauf M1 Repair. When applying Knauf Tiefengrund, ensure that no puddles form on the surface. When priming the substrate, the substrate, the product and the ambient temperature must all be at least 5 °C.
