Product description

Knauf Insulation Unifit 037 – mineral wool for pitched roofs

Knauf Insulation | Glass mineral wool mat featuring ECOSE® technology

Fire class A1
ECOSE® technology
λ = 0.037 W/mK
Formaldehyde-free
Water-repellent
CE certificate

A pitched roof is one of the most challenging parts of a building to insulate effectively – irregular surfaces, rafters at varying spacings and the need to fit the insulation precisely mean that not every material is suitable here.

Knauf Insulation Unifit 037 is a mineral wool mat designed specifically to meet such challenges – it combines excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties with increased rigidity, making installation quicker, more convenient and more precise.

What is Unifit 037 and what makes it stand out?

Unifit 037 is mineral wool manufactured using ECOSE® technology – an innovative fibre-binding process based on natural, rapidly renewable raw materials, without the addition of formaldehyde, phenols, acrylics or artificial colourants. It is thanks to this technology that the product acquires its distinctive, natural brown colour, and its production consumes as much as 70% less energy compared to traditional fibre-bonding methods.

The material is supplied in compressed rolls, which significantly reduces transport costs and the environmental footprint, and regains its full thickness and resilience once unpacked. The mat’s increased rigidity means that the wool retains its shape perfectly between the rafters without the need for additional lacing or auxiliary fixings, which significantly speeds up installation work on the roof.

Where is Unifit 037 wool best suited?

Unifit 037 has been designed primarily for the thermal and acoustic insulation of pitched roofs, to be installed between and beneath the rafters, but its applications are much wider:

  • pitched roofs – the main and most common application, insulation between the rafters and an additional layer beneath the rafters,
  • floors and ceilings between joists – effective thermal and acoustic insulation for timber structures,
  • walls in timber-frame structures – filling the space between the structural elements of timber-frame buildings.

Unifit 037 – compelling benefits

The Unifit 037 underlay is a product designed to make the work of installers easier and to ensure maximum thermal comfort for residents:

  • Excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties – effective protection against heat loss and noise,
  • The highest fire resistance class (A1) – maximum fire safety for the building,
  • Increased rigidity – the material is easier to shape and retains its shape in the spaces between the rafters,
  • Retains its shape – no settling or shifting of the insulation during use,
  • Markings to aid cutting – special lines on the roll allow the wool to be cut quickly and precisely to the required dimensions,
  • Easy and convenient fitting – no lacing or additional fastenings required,
  • Compact packaging – lower transport costs and reduced storage space.

Technical specifications of Unifit 037 wool

Unifit 037 has a thermal conductivity coefficient (λD) of 0.037 W/mK, which places the product amongst materials with very good insulating properties. Its tensile strength is more than twice the material’s own weight, and its diffusion resistance factor is 1, which ensures the free transport of water vapour through the insulation. The specific air permeability resistance is at least 5 kPa·s/m², and the thickness tolerance class is T2.

The product is available in a wide range of thicknesses – from 50 mm to 200 mm, with a fixed width of 1,200 mm – which allows the insulation to be tailored to individual design requirements and the expected thermal resistance R, which, depending on the thickness, ranges from 1.35 to 5.40 m²K/W.

Quality, the environment and certifications

Knauf Insulation Unifit 037 has an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), which transparently documents the product’s environmental impact – from the sourcing of raw materials, through production and transport, to use and recycling. The product also holds DECLARE certification, confirming the absence of formaldehyde, flame retardants and fungicides, as well as a certificate from the National Institute of Hygiene, guaranteeing the material’s safety for human health.

The product is marked in accordance with standard MW-EN 13162-T2-MU1-AFr5, has a CE Declaration of Conformity and a Declaration of Performance (DoP), which is available on the manufacturer’s website.

Why choose the Unifit 037?

Knauf Insulation Unifit 037 is a mineral wool product that combines top-class technical performance with practical ease of installation — thanks to its increased rigidity and markings to facilitate cutting, roofing work is carried out more quickly and precisely, without the risk of thermal bridges forming. It is an investment in thermal comfort, quiet and fire safety for years to come, manufactured using ECOSE® technology with respect for the environment and the health of residents.

Frequently Asked Questions – Knauf Unifit 037

What is ECOSE® technology and why is it important?
ECOSE® is a fibre-bonding biotechnology patented by Knauf Insulation and based on natural plant-derived components. The binder is free from formaldehyde, phenol and acrylic – substances used in the traditional production of mineral wool. ECOSE® wool contains no artificial colourants (hence its natural brown colour), produces minimal dust and has a neutral odour during installation. This results in healthier indoor air and a safer working environment on site.
Is Knauf Unifit 037 suitable for a timber-frame house?
Yes – this is one of the product’s main applications. Unifit 037 is ideal for filling external and internal walls in timber-frame and timber-built houses. Its full vapour permeability (μ≈1) allows water vapour to migrate freely through the partition, which is crucial in timber construction and eliminates the risk of condensation and damp in the structure.
Why is Unifit 037 wool brown?
The brown colour is the natural shade of the wool produced using ECOSE® technology. During the production process, Knauf Insulation does not add any artificial colourants or brightening agents to the wool – the colour comes solely from the properties of the natural plant-based binder. This is further evidence of the company’s eco-friendly approach to production.
Does Unifit 037 wool absorb moisture?
No. The fibres in Unifit 037 wool are water-repellent from the manufacturing process onwards, which means that water does not penetrate the structure of the material. At the same time, the wool is fully vapour-permeable – water vapour can pass freely through the partition, which prevents condensation and keeps the structure dry for years to come.
Where can Knauf Unifit 037 be used?
Unifit 037 is used for the thermal and acoustic insulation of pitched roofs (between and beneath the rafters), attic floors, floors on joists, suspended ceilings, external and internal walls in timber-framed and wooden houses, three-layer walls, and walls with panel cladding (siding, boards). It is also suitable as acoustic insulation for partition walls and timber beam ceilings.
