Thanks to our direct partnership with the manufacturer, we ensure consistent product availability, competitive prices and professional support in selecting the right solution. Knauf rock wool or glass wool – which to choose?

Knauf glass wool is lighter and more flexible – it works brilliantly between rafters, adapting to irregular spacing in the structure. Rock wool is harder, has a higher fire resistance rating (class A1) and is better suited to ceilings, flat roofs and sound insulation. This category combines both types – you’ll find a detailed comparison and guidance on which to choose for a specific project in the guide:

The full range of Knauf Insulation wool – boards, rolls and blown-in insulation

This category includes, amongst others, the products most frequently chosen by investors:

    • Knauf Unifit 035

      – springy panels designed for installation between rafters, ideal for pitched roofs and converted attics.

    • Knauf Naturoll Plus 040

      – flexible wool in rolls, which adapts well to irregular spacing in the structure.

    • Supafil Loft blown-in wool

      – a solution for unused attics and ceilings, enabling hard-to-reach spaces to be filled quickly.

In addition, we offer a range of products, including specialised and loose-fill insulation, rock wool, wall insulation and the vapour barrier essential for insulation work using wool.

Why do professionals choose Knauf Insulation wool?

The main advantages of Knauf Insulation products are:

    • low thermal conductivity (lambda as low as 0.035 W/(m·K)),

    • high fire resistance, certified to classes A1 or A2,

    • very good acoustic properties,

    • the durability of the insulation properties over many years of use,

    • compliance with European building standards.

Thanks to these properties, Knauf products are a popular choice amongst both contractors and private clients.

Certificates and standards – compliance with building regulations

Knauf Insulation products bear the CE mark and comply with the requirements of standard EN 13162 for mineral wool products. The insulation performance allows for the design of partitions in accordance with the applicable requirements of WT 2021, which is important both for the construction of new homes and the refurbishment of existing buildings.

Uses of Knauf mineral wool – where can it be used?

Knauf mineral wool is used in most partitions requiring effective thermal and acoustic insulation. Below, we outline the most common applications for the products available in this category.

Insulation of a pitched roof and a converted loft

Roof insulation with mineral wool is most commonly carried out in a two-layer system: the first layer is placed between the rafters, and the second beneath them. This approach minimises thermal bridges and enables the building to meet the required energy performance standards. Unifit boards and Naturoll rolls are the best choices for mineral wool in the loft, as they adapt easily to the roof structure. Want to install the insulation yourself? See the guide:

    .

Insulation of the ceiling and the unused loft

In the case of an unused loft or the ceiling above the top floor, the following works very well:

    roof insulation with wool

applied using the blow-in method. Supafil Loft allows the entire insulation space to be filled quickly and tightly, eliminating thermal bridges and ensuring an even layer of insulation.

Sound insulation of partition walls and ceilings

Knauf mineral wool effectively reduces noise transmission between rooms. It is therefore often used in partition walls constructed using drywall techniques and in suspended ceilings. This solution is particularly valued during loft conversions and the refurbishment of flats and houses.

How do I choose the right Knauf Insulation wool?

Choosing the right product depends on the application, the type of structure and the required thermal insulation performance. It is worth considering the product’s form, its lambda value and the target thickness of the insulation layer.

Unifit wool slabs vs Naturoll wool rolls – which to choose?

    Feature Unifit (panels) Naturoll (rolls)

    Form

    Rigid spring plates

    Flexible rollers

    Rafter spacing

    Standard (approx. 60 cm)

    Non-standard and variable

    Installation

    Precise, minimal waste

    Application

    Pitched roofs and convertible lofts

    Ceilings, attics and irregular spaces

What thickness of insulation should I choose for the loft – 15, 20 or 25 cm?

The appropriate thickness of insulation depends on the building’s energy requirements. The most commonly searched-for option is ‘mineral wool 15’, i.e. the 15 cm thick variant, used as the first layer of insulation. Currently, a total of around 25 cm of insulation is considered the optimal solution for new homes:

    • 15 cm mineral wool

      – most commonly as the first layer between the rafters,

    • 20 cm mineral wool

      – an interim solution used in modernisation projects,

    • 25 cm and above – the recommended standard for achieving very good thermal insulation.

A popular option is a 15 cm gap between the rafters and an additional 10 cm beneath them. If you’re not sure how many layers or what thickness would be best for your situation, use the calculator provided with each product.

Wool quantity calculator – work out how much you need

To work out how much material you need, measure the surface area of the partition to be insulated and add approximately 10–15% to allow for offcuts. Then compare the result with the surface area covered by one pack of your chosen product.

When browsing the Knauf Insulation range of wool insulation, you’ll find a built-in calculator next to each product that suggests the area in m², and the number of packs required is calculated automatically. If you need help, please contact the PK Complex advisers – we’ll be happy to assist you with your calculations.

FAQ – frequently asked questions about Knauf Insulation mineral wool

Which Knauf mineral wool is best for a converted loft?

For a converted loft, Knauf glass wool installed between the rafters works best – for example, the Unifit or Ecose® range, with a thickness of 15 cm laid in two layers or as a combination of 20 cm plus a 10 cm top-up. A low lambda coefficient and flexibility are key, as they allow the rafter space to be filled tightly.

Is 15 cm of Knauf mineral wool enough to insulate the roof?

A single 15 cm layer does not usually meet the requirements of WT 2021 (U ≤ 0.15 W/(m²·K) is required). Two layers are usually required, e.g. 15 + 15 cm or 20 + 10 cm.

What is the difference between Knauf rock wool and glass wool?

Glass wool is lighter, more flexible and works better between rafters. Rock wool is harder, has a higher fire resistance rating (Class A1) and is better suited to ceilings, flat roofs and sound insulation. Both are available in our range.

How does Knauf Unifit differ from Naturoll?

Unifit consists of resilient panels designed primarily for installation between rafters. Naturoll comes in rolls and is better suited to structures with irregular spacing and large ceiling areas.

How much does Knauf mineral wool cost per square metre?

The price depends on the thickness and type of insulation (glass wool or rock wool) – you can find the exact price on the category page and in the product details for your chosen item. Prices are negotiable for larger orders.

Does Knauf Insulation wool require a vapour barrier?

Yes. In most pitched roofs, an internal vapour barrier is an essential component of a properly constructed roof structure. It protects the insulation layer from excessive damp and loss of performance.

Can I order Knauf wool with home delivery?

Yes – sklep.pkcomplex.pl delivers throughout Poland. You can place an order directly via the online shop or contact our sales department, which will help you choose the right product based on your design or the building’s dimensions and provide you with a personalised quote.

Is PK Complex an authorised distributor for Knauf Insulation?

Yes. PK Complex is an official partner of Knauf Insulation, which means we offer the manufacturer’s genuine products, professional technical advice and access to the full range.
